Lapis was one of the winners of the International Furniture Design Competition in Asahikawa back in 1996, and was soon decided to bring out to the market due to its popularity. Designed by a Finish designer group, Sirkka and Timo Saarnio, this stackable chair is as light as three kilograms, composed of only three parts: a backrest with beautiful grains, ergonomic seating to fit the body line, and sturdy legs to firmly support the body weight.

Sirkka & Timo Saarnio

Sirkka Saarnio was born in Helsinki in 1946. She graduated in photography and interior design from the University of Art and Design Helsinki. Since 1992 she has been working together with her husband, Timo Saarnio. Timo Saarnio was born in Helsinki in 1944. He opened his interior design office in 1982. He also started to participate in furniture design competitions with great success. Timo has collaborated with well-known international furniture companies. Minimalism is the essential factor in his design, which means clear constructions and production processes.
