Simon Schmitz
Simon Schmitz is a German lighting designer; in his own words, he is something between a designer, a sculptor and a puppeteer. His luminaires are often based on balance and some sort of mechanical movement – for Schmitz, luminaires are not just functional objects, but sculptures, works of art. He wants to express his love for mechanical principles by putting an emphasis on the way things work, move or behave. Designing a working principle, creating mechanical joints or orchestrating balancing acts. Born in Arnsberg, Germany, Schmitz currently lives and works in Hamburg.
